In 2017, a WCA Newbies Trophy was introduced and subsequently re-named the John Basemore Newbies Trophy in recognition of John’s long-running commitment to assisting new archers at WCA. John continued shooting until well into his 90’s and passed away in 2023. John and his cheeky smile will be remembered fondly.

This event is open to WCA members who have yet to obtain an archery handicap and is an off-the-bow event typically run once or twice a year using a round with a maximum distance of 30m. The winner of this event has their name engraved on the John Basemore Newbies Trophy shield displayed in the WCA clubrooms.
